Black Friday may have been and gone, but fans of fast cars and bikes can still get a cracker of a Christmas deal at Thruxton Circuit, with generous discounts on driving experiences as well as 2016 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship and Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship tickets until the end of this year.
Petrol-heads will delight in flinging a Ferrari F430 or 458 Italia around the quickest circuit in Britain, or getting to grips with the ultra-rare – not to mention ultra-fast and ultra-sophisticated – 6.5-litre, 750bhp Lamborghini Aventador Roadster which sprints to 60mph in less than three seconds and continues on past 200mph.
The awesome Lamborghini Huracán V10 and elegant Jaguar F-TYPE S came along to play in 2015, and both have been instant hits. Alternatively, if the Spectre of 007 still lingers, the very British and very James Bond Aston Martin V8 Vantage awaits – around Thruxton’s flat-out sweepers, it’ll be sure to leave you feeling shaken, not stirred.
As winter’s snowy, icy grip looms, meanwhile, Thruxton’s Skid Pan Experience helps motorists to develop the necessary skills to correct and control a sliding car in a safe and fun environment. The venue uses modern front and rear-wheel-drive cars and caters for drivers as young as 12 via its ‘Junior’ option.
Experiences start at under £100 and all come with expert tuition from fully-qualified racing instructors, but if you’d sooner leave the high-speed heroics to the pros, make sure to snap up tickets to Thruxton’s two biggest motor sport meetings – the thrill-a-minute British Touring Car Championship and edge-of-the-seat British Superbike Championship.
The BTCC attracts grids of up to 30 flame-spitting tin-tops that generate wild wheel-to-wheel racing and doorhandle-to-doorhandle drama. With no fewer than ten different winners and 15 podium finishers this year, unpredictability is always a key feature.
BSB, meanwhile, is the country’s biggest and best two-wheeled series, with a field of fearless gladiators duelling for glory with awe-inspiring skill and split-second precision. The racing is invariably breathtaking – never more so than around Thruxton’s fast, flowing layout.
What’s more, between now and the end of December, fans can take advantage of a flurry of unique festive packages. BTCC race day tickets on Sunday, 8 May are available for just £30 as opposed to £47 and two-day weekend savers are reduced from £62 to £38. Both come with a paddock pass and race programme, whilst weekend super-saver passes – which add a grandstand seat to the offering – are down from £82 to £55. Accompanied children aged 15 and under are admitted to the circuit free of charge.
BSB race day tickets on Sunday, 24 July are similarly available for just £30 as opposed to £47 and two-day weekend savers are reduced from £62 to £38. Both come with a paddock pass and race programme, whilst weekend super-saver passes – which include Friday access and a grandstand seat – are down from £87 to £60. Accompanied children aged 15 and under are again admitted free of charge.
“What a superb calendar of entertainment we have to look forward to here in 2016!” enthused Thruxton Group Managing Director Bill Coombs. “The BSB and BTCC are unquestionably our two biggest crowd-pullers of the year, as the very best riders and drivers in the country come to pit themselves against the UK’s fastest circuit.
“Alternatively, if you fancy your own abilities out on the racetrack, we have a sensational line-up of supercars in which to test your mettle. These are the kind of cars you might see parked up outside the Casino de Monte-Carlo and that would cost you the price of a small house to own, but at Thruxton, you can climb behind the wheel for as little as £100. What a present that would be to wake up to on Christmas Day!”
